Handler's father was a used car dealer, as was her mother, who was a homemaker. Her mother is German that immigrated to United States from Germany in 1958. In 1989 Handler was diagnosed with cancer and died ten years later. Her father was Jewish and she was raised up in Reform Judaism. Handler was born in a good neighborhood and enjoyed her childhood. As a teenager and relocated in Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. To make ends meet, Handler began to work as an actor. Handler started doing stand-up comedian full-time when she turned 21. Handler had realized that she has a knack for storytelling. Handler started her stand-up career on her role on the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving Badly the reality series that featured a hidden-camera/practical joke. The show was on the air from 2002 to 2005. The actress was a part of other programs, including Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler began her professional career as a reporter on The Tonight Show. Handler's biggest breakthrough was in 2006, as she began hosting her show on E! it was dubbed The Chelsea Handler Series.
